Roast beef dinner was on the menu at Dick and Jane's Foodbank and Free Lunch Fundraiser on February 22 at the VBJ Centre in Colborne. By 5:30 about 30 had dropped in for the meal and entertainment. Some were even served by Northumberland-Quinte West MP Rick Norlock, on hand to support the event.

dick_and_jane_rickDick and Jane Babcock have been offering a free lunch every Wednesday for almost three years using food donated by the Belleville Mission, or brought in by volunteers or themselves.

With Cramahe Township considering next month whether to sell the VBJ Centre, Jane was asked how she felt about the future of the free lunch program. She replied, " God put us here and it will be God that moves us." She'll wait and see, but she's not afraid of it (a move).

Jane says she gets 50-60 people in for the free Wednesday lunch prepared by eight volunteers. Those who are able give donations. She wants it to be a family affair, to have people feel like they are at home.

After dinner on February 22, Dave and Lenore Bongard, and Dick and Jane entertained those who stayed with gospel and country music.
